File sync
Nimbox Vault allows you to easily and automatically sync files and folders across all of your devices.
To do this, we create a special folder on your device called ‘Nimbox Vault,’ into which you can add the files that you wish to sync.
How syncing works
When data is added, deleted or modified in your Nimbox Vault folder, it will be synced to the Nimbox platform, and across your connected devices.
Your data is synchronised as efficiently as possible, using rsync (a widely-used utility to keep copies of a file on two computer systems the same).
When compressible files over 1MB in size are placed in the sync queue, Vault performs an rsync-derived process that compares the existing version with your updated version, and only transfers the changed portion(s).
An example of this process would be editing a single cell in a large Excel spreadsheet: Vault will detect that change, and only sync the one cell to our platform, eliminating the need to re-upload the entire spreadsheet.
Because of this process, Vault will never unnecessarily re-upload a file or waste bandwidth; providing you with efficient, quick, and safe file syncing.
Types of files that we can sync
Nimbox does not restrict the types or sizes of files that you can backup, however, your organisation’s administrator may have limited the types of files that you can sync you may read more about this here.
Compression and encryption
Vault de-duplicates, compresses, and encrypts your files before they are uploaded, meaning that 100GB of raw data will only use roughly 70GB of your Nimbox storage quota.
Versioning
Every time you modify a file in your Nimbox Vault folder, we create a new version of that file, rather than overwriting your existing file. This means that each file has a complete change history, and you may restore the previous versions.
